The "Bilingual" Tourist Who Got Confused by Basic Logistics
Here is our analysis of Karen Delano's review.
We are getting better and better!
She wrote to us on 27/03/2025:
"Our coffee grounds were burnt and tasted terrible. Latte and cap were painful to drink. Get caffe cabana or gorreana tea. Also he’s a crypto bot and can’t speak Portuguese."
Every now and then, a review comes along that isn't just bad economics—it's a complete masterclass in projection and cultural hypocrisy.
Let’s break down the critique:
1. "Burnt Grounds" & The Commercial Palate
When someone is used to ultra-dark commercial roast masked by sugar or low-grade milk, light or medium single-origin specialty coffee can shock their palate. Calling a specialty roast "burnt" while pointing people toward standard commercial alternatives is like calling a dry craft wine "sour" because you're used to sweet boxed juice. If your standard of excellence is commodity coffee, a specialty roastery was never meant for you.
2. The Language Hypocrisy
It is always fascinating when a visitor or foreign resident turns around to lecture a local business owner on language and culture. Specialty coffee in an international travel destination operates on global trade, direct producer communication, and universal standards. Expecting a micro-roastery to function like a traditional commercial cafe—while you yourself navigate global spaces—is pure double-standard theater.
3. The "Crypto Bot" Ad Hominem
When you can’t argue the product, the roast profile, or the extraction, you resort to random name-calling. Calling a business owner a "crypto bot" simply because they understand modern finance or digital assets is what people say when they run out of actual arguments to make.
The Takeaway:
If you want standard commercial options, the island has plenty of places for that. But if you walk into a specialty micro-roastery, don't be surprised when the product—and the owner—don't fit into a commercial box.
This is the kind of garbage we need to face with lots of humor. Human stupidity never ends
